Bipolar medication is needed on a frequently basis and is generally part of a lifelong therapy of the disorder. Medication is the best chance for keeping symptoms at bay since there is no cure for bipolar.

Bipolar Medication is important

People with the disorder can be helped by bipolar medication to elevate symptoms, so they can live the life normally, and to provide an overall treatment of the disorder, med is generally combined with another therapy.

If the disorder stops taking their medicine, though, it is very much likely that warning signs will return swiftly. The disorder should never go off their medication without consulting with the doctor.

Medication Used Category

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder. It is characterized by the mood swings from extreme highs to extreme lows. The most common medication used it Lithium.

In some cases anti depressants and anti seizure, medications are used. Usually, though, moos stabilizers are the first resort and tried before other medications.

It is very important for doctor to explain that the medication may take some time to work since it can take as long as two weeks for the mood stabilizing med to start working.

Lithium

Because the lithium is the most commonly used medication, and the oldest drug used, there are many people who know how it works. It is usually very safe and any problems with the medication are showed quickly.

The common side effects from lithium include:

* Exhaustion

* Bad Diarrhea

* Nausea

* Frequent urination

* Trembles

* Weight gain

The bipolar medication used will be taken based on the individual patient. For some people, bipolar does not cause main mood change, but only the episodes are serious.

Occasionally, a doctor will check the patient’s mood changes to find out the best bipolar medications would be. But for some people, the depressive attack generally most severe and that is when they would need an anti depressant.
