Medication is the choice therapy for many anxiety disorders because it can often provide quick acting relief. Ativan, Klonipan, Xanax, or some other benzodiazepine can be used to receive more immediate relief. These medications are to be taken during an anxiety attack, when the patient needs help immediately. Doctors are cautious when prescribing this type of medication, though, as they can become highly addictive. This can lead to other mental health problems so care has to be exercised.
